  1. Discuss -> Gentrification
Gentrification is growing more and more apparent in LA, and not only is it raising the rent price in low-income neighborhoods, but it is also raising the rate of homelessness. One solution that LA county has come up with is allowing Angelenos to sleep in their cars without the risk of getting a fine, however, I think this is a very band-aid solution.  What do you guys think? How is gentrification affecting you or someone you know?
  2. Discuss -> Homelessness lack of access to health and rights ( Justice for the homeless).

Homelessness is a crisis which affects millions of people and is increasing at a fast pace. Not only do homeless people now have to worry about food, money, and not having a roof under their heads but communities around the nation see homeless activities such as sitting down or sleeping as criminal activity under law. Right now because of circumstances with the coronavirus homeless are not being seen as disturbances or targets for criminal activities but are receiving help to get tested for covid-19 and shelter. My goal is to be able to get justice for the homeless who are put this filter of criminals and are only given help under these circumstances, homeless ( lowest income people) should have access to health tests for free and shelter ( even after covid-19 ) and should not be stripped away from certain justices under the Declaration of Independence given to EVERYONE.

  3. Discuss -> Animal Abuse -> Animal Abuse
Animal abuse is not something I agree with or support and this is a great topic. Animals should be treated as humans because they need to eat, sleep and also be loved. Many may not realize it but animals have feelings as well and they know when they are being mistreated. As you may have seen on the commercials or even reality itself, animals get abused by their owners. From not being fed and getting skinny, to being hit and injured. There is nothing to stop these people from doing it because a normal person can lash out and take out the anger on the animal because they know that the animal is not as strong as themselves.
  4. Discuss -> Delaying Starting time for school -> Re: Delaying Starting time for school

    Hi Cjataya,

I think your proposal is a great idea. At my high school, we used to have late start on Wednesdays where school starts at 9:45 am, but this year they changed the schedule and that old schedule isn't in place anymore. Last year, I used to always look forward to Wednesdays because I could sleep in, even if it was just for an hour; sometimes 30 minutes!

It is vital that students get enough sleep, and that may be troubling to those who are taking challenging courses such as honors or APs and may need to stay up a bit longer to study or do homework. A late start is one of the possible solutions to those drowsy mornings.

  5. Discuss -> Teen Drop Out Prevention -> Re: Teen Drop Out Prevention

I feel that if teachers figured a way to make their teaching interesting or something they know students will be intrigued by more students would want to show up other then have boring lessons that i agree are productive for us but boring which makes students not want to even pay attention whether its productive or not because they'll always think oh so and so class is boring and makes me always want to sleep, teachers cant teach if their is no one to teach.

  6. Discuss -> Should school start an hour later? -> Re: Should school start an hour later?

I love the idea, but the only problem with this is that if school were to start at 9:00 instead of 8:00 in the morning, then the school hours would also be pushed forward from 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. So, in the long-run it makes no difference; you would just be making the students stress a bit more with school ending later, getting home later, and sleeping later

  7. Discuss -> Should school start an hour later? -> Re: Should school start an hour later?

    Hey Gerard,

I feel like if school started an hour later, students will tend to get to school on time and be able to get more time to sleep or more time to get ready. So starting school an hour later is not a bad idea and it is one that should be considered.

  8. Discuss -> Should school start an hour later? -> Re: Should school start an hour later?

If school started an hour later students would be rested to start the day.Student are already stressed and with all the homework that piles on them they don't get much sleep. So then you have exhausted kids that have a really hard time focusing in class and their grades begin to drop.

  9. Discuss -> Should school start an hour later? -> Re: Should school start an hour later?

yes so students can have 1 extra hour sleep

  10. Discuss -> winter break -> Re: winter break

Yes, I believe it should be three weeks because that means I can sleep in longer.
